Wanted to share that I was blessed with my baby girl on 20th may at 4:23 am.
The whole experience was something I can never forget. It was not just special but also something that made me realize as to how strong a women can be .
All your words & learning from simple breathing techniques to how birthing came naturally to a woman was something I did recall & practice during my labour & birth.
Once my water broke in less than 5 hours I delivered my baby. It was a normal delivery with no tear at all.
The midwives there told me how lucky I was as a first time mom to have such a short labour and that without a tear.
I told them my luck just got stronger with the birth of my baby. Having said that I give it to my active pregnancy, yoga, walks along with my willpower & determination all though that made me go through a short labour & a non complicated birth.
I can't thank you enough for what you taught me but also for the wonderful person that you are.
Introducing Jamila Hartnell, born on 14th August (40+3) at 11:27am, in the Barkantine Birth Centre, weighing 7lbs 8oz and measuring 21.6 inches.
She came after 20 hours of labour, most of which I spent at home. I started having regular contractions at 3pm on the 13th of August, which continued through the night getting stronger and stronger but never consistently 3-4 minutes apart.
I finally went into the birth centre at 8:30am on the 14th because I thought my water had broke in the bath (it hadn't). Upon examination I was already 7cm dilated and ready to push- Jamila was here 2 hrs 45mins later.
Whilst labouring at home, I found warm baths, rotating my hips on my birthing ball, leaning over things & rocking my hips, all fours and child's pose most effective for coping with contractions and bad lower back pain.
Overall, the breathing that we practice in Arlene's class is what got me through each contraction. I focused on breathing out long breaths through loose lips and making an 'ahhh' sound when breathing out through the pushing.
Thank you Arlene, for giving me confidence in my body and ability to give birth and for teaching us how to manage labour pain. In the end the only pain relief I used was breathing and the birthing pool.
You'll be glad to hear that I'll be aiming for a home birth if I have another baby, as I think staying at home for so long helped me relax.
Welcome to my website.
